Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming higher education by changing the way teaching, learning, assessment, research, and academic administration are carried out. AI-powered applications such as generative AI, intelligent tutoring systems, automated assessment tools, learning analytics, and adaptive learning platforms provide teachers with new opportunities to improve educational quality and student engagement. At the same time, the growing use of AI raises important questions about the changing role of teachers, academic integrity, data privacy, ethical responsibility, professional skills, and the future of employment in education. The traditional role of teachers as primary providers of information is gradually shifting towards that of facilitators, mentors, learning designers, critical evaluators, and ethical guides. Teachers are increasingly expected to help students evaluate AI-generated information, develop critical-thinking skills, use technology responsibly, and apply knowledge in real-world situations. This article examines the changing role of teachers in higher education in the context of AI adoption.
