Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies has significantly transformed the tourism industry by
reshaping the way destinations are promoted, accessed, and experienced. Digital tourism utilizes platforms
such as social media, mobile applications, and online information systems to enhance destination visibility,
improve tourist engagement, and support informed travel decision-making. This study examines the role of
digital tourism in destination development and promotion with special reference to Tamil Nadu.
The primary objective of the study is to analyze tourists’ usage of digital tourism platforms and their level
of satisfaction with these services. The research also explores the factors influencing the effectiveness of digital
tourism strategies in enhancing travel experiences. A quantitative research approach was adopted, and data
were collected from a sample of 550 tourists using a structured questionnaire. Convenience sampling
technique was used to select respondents who had experience using digital tourism services in Tamil Nadu.
The collected data were analyzed using Percentage Analysis and Correlation Analysis. Percentage
analysis was used to examine respondents’ usage patterns of digital tourism platforms, while correlation
analysis was employed to determine the relationship between digital tourism usage and tourist satisfaction.
The findings reveal that social media platforms are the most widely used digital tourism tools among
respondents. The correlation analysis indicates a strong positive relationship between digital tourism usage
and tourist satisfaction, suggesting that increased use of digital platforms leads to higher levels of satisfaction.
The study also highlights that factors such as information quality, accessibility, and ease of use play a crucial
role in shaping tourists’ digital experiences.
The study concludes that digital tourism significantly enhances tourist satisfaction and plays an
important role in destination promotion in Tamil Nadu. However, continuous improvement in digital
infrastructure and content quality is necessary to maximize its effectiveness. The research emphasizes that
strengthening digital tourism initiatives can contribute to improved destination competitiveness and
sustainable tourism development in the region.
