Abstract

ABSTRACT
Financial Technology (FinTech) has become a powerful catalyst in
transforming the global tourism landscape, fundamentally altering the way
travelers plan, manage, and spend during their journeys. The rapid rise of
digital financial solutions—including mobile wallets, Unified Payments
Interface (UPI), QR-code payments, travel-centric credit cards, contactless
payment platforms, and emerging Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) options—
has significantly reshaped tourist expenditure patterns. These technologies
offer enhanced convenience, faster transactions, stronger security features,
and greater financial transparency, all of which encourage tourists to
engage in higher and more diversified spending.
Moreover, FinTech tools provide tourists with improved budget
management, real-time exchange rate visibility, personalized financial
offers, and seamless cross-border payment options. Such features not only
elevate the overall travel experience but also increase purchasing power
and reduce financial barriers. As a result, tourists demonstrate a higher
propensity to spend on accommodation upgrades, local experiences, retail
purchases, transportation, and digital services. This article explores the
multifaceted impact of Fin Tech on tourist spending behaviour,
emphasizing how technological adoption is driving new trends in
consumption, shaping destination competitiveness, and fostering a more
digitally empowered tourism economy.
