🛡️ Plagiarism Policy & Research Ethics
NGM College Library and Information System
In alignment with the University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations and the NGM College principle of Truth, we maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward academic dishonesty. All research submitted to NGMCPUB or the Institutional Repository must be original and ethically sound.
🔍 I. The Verification Process
Every manuscript (Journal Article, Thesis, or Project Report) submitted to the Bharat Ratna C. Subramaniam Centenary Library undergoes a two-stage verification:
-
Technical Screening: Automated similarity check using Drillbit or Ouriginal (Urkund).
-
Editorial Review: Manual verification by the Research Support Cell to distinguish between “similarity” (common phrases, citations) and “plagiarism” (stolen ideas, uncredited text).
📊 II. Levels of Plagiarism & Penalties
As per institutional guidelines, similarity levels are categorized as follows:
| Level | Similarity Index | Action Taken |
| Level 0 | Up to 10% | Accepted. Minor similarities in common terminology allowed. |
| Level 1 | 10% to 40% | Revision Required. Author must withdraw and resubmit with corrections. |
| Level 2 | 40% to 60% | Rejection. Author is debarred from submitting for a period of one year. |
| Level 3 | Above 60% | Disciplinary Action. Permanent rejection and reporting to the Head of Institution. |
⚖️ III. Definition of Academic Misconduct
Authors must avoid the following practices:
-
Plagiarism: Presenting someone else’s work, ideas, or expressions as your own.
-
Self-Plagiarism: Resubmitting your own previously published work without proper citation.
-
Fabrication/Falsification: Manipulating research data or results.
-
Duplicate Submission: Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.
✅ IV. Exclusions from Similarity Checks
The following elements are generally excluded during the software scan:
-
All quoted work reproduced with the permission of the original author.
-
All references, bibliography, table of contents, and acknowledgments.
-
Generic terms, laws, standard mathematical formulas, and common phrases.
📝 V. Author Declaration
Before final submission, authors must sign a Self-Declaration Form stating:
“I hereby declare that this research is my original work. I have properly cited all sources used. I understand that any evidence of plagiarism will lead to the immediate rejection of my work and potential disciplinary action by NGM College.”
